Priority Cubic-Rate Mail
- Best value for small-but-heavy packages.
- Not available at the Post Office.
- Will automatically be shown when you “get rates” for any package that qualifies.
- To qualify:
- Total weight must be less than 20 lbs
- Each side must measure 18” or less (If more than one side is close to 18” it may still not qualify)
- Cubic foot measurement is less than or equal to 0.5
How To Measure For Cubic Rate:
- Measure the length, width, and height, rounded down to the nearest ¼”
- Calculate length x width x height / 1,728 to get the cubic foot measurement

Weight-Based Mail Rates
- Best value for bulky and lighter-weight items.
- Used for more "standard" shipment types.
- May trigger "dimensional weight" guidelines when the cubic foot measurement is 1 Cubic Foot or greater.
How To Measure For Weight-Based Rates:
- Measure the length, width, and height, rounded down to the nearest ¼”
- Calculate length x width x height / 1,728 to get the cubic foot measurement.
- If the result is equal to or greater than 1, divide the result by 166 to get the dimensional weight. Use this as the weight when looking up the rates in the chart.
- If the result is less than 1, use the actual weight of the package
